Black River Bullmastiffs is a small family run kennel situated at the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. With the Black River passing through our 400+ acres, we have ample room for our dogs to exercise and live active lives. At Black River I live a somewhat unconvential life; and I do not appoligize for it. I have not chosen either of the two conventional methods of running a breeding program; one centered on the show ring and the other centered on the profit. I have set one goal for this endeavor; to breed strong healthy functional specimens of the Bullmastiff that are true to the original intent of the breed.
From years of affliation with the Humane Society, I have experienced first hand the unethical practices of exploiting animals for profit. Due to this; I vowed from the begining that my establishment would be designed around the desire of happy life for all involved!
At Black River, because I love and admire my bullies, I seek to utilize my kennel for the betterment of the breed; insuring a humane and happy enviroment of each dog in my care. I have designed my pens to be approx. an acre or more in size, to give plenty of room to romp around and play. All pens have ample shade and a kiddy pool, for bullies love a splash and play in the water. Each dog has a buddy, another Bullmastiff puppy, which they get along with so they are never lonely; because all bullies are extremely social creatures. every day. Everyone is rotated into the house, where they are treated to a bath.

Rhesa loves to steal my scrub brush or shoes while I am in the pen;he finds humor in getting me to look like a fool chasing him around the yard. Rhesa's only weekness is the ladies and all things bristled. Show Rhesa a broom and he is driven out of his mind with excitement! Add a in season female and he is in a delima...
Lady Sive is fiercly possesive of Jamie. Sive runs the show at Black River; she is busy keeping everyone in line. She is also a favorite amoung all the others, because she knows how to play. She enjoys a good challenge, always observing her peers style of wrestling, she then adapts her method and then shocks her apponent as she puts them down. Sivey is just a good time momma as she loves to play, chase walnuts, swim, wrestle with her peers and attempt to nurse any puppy. She is full of slobbery kisses looking for any opportunity to sneak one in on you.
Gideon is master to my eldest son Zollie, or is it our oldest son is master to Gideon? That is a question yet to be answered. Both are extremely laid back and mellow, with a side of stubbornness only equalled by the other. Gideon's desirein life is to please Zollie, entertain the girls, and recieve "treats" for perform- ing his tasks.

The West Siberian Laika is an ancient hunting breed originating from local dogs of the West and Central Siberie and Oeral. It is a middle to large size dog, 50-62 cm at shoulder. Its body is a little longer than heigh, strongly built, has a wedge shaped head with almond set eyes. They have erect, pointed ears and a strongly curled tail which is carried on the back. The West Siberian Laika's character should be stabil, intelligent, alert and active. It is one of the few breeds which from appearence point of view still has the looks of a wolf. Like all polar dogs they have a double coat which protects them from the cold and heat climate. Its colour varies from white, grey, red to brown and any mixture of these colours.
The West Siberian Laika is an excellent guardian but if raised proparly not agressive to man. It becomes very attached to its owner if given the propar care and interest. Its talents as a hunter on small (birds, squirrel, hare) and big game (elk, lynx, bear) shows its courage and stamina. If one is not in the position to use its hunting skills, there are many other stimuli to train the dog. They can be used for tracking, obedience, agility, mushing and rescue work.
